Former President Donald Trump has confirmed he will debate Vice President Kamala Harris on September 4, but has stipulated that the event must be hosted by Fox News and free from fact-checking. Trump announced the change on Truth Social, stating he will no longer participate in the previously scheduled debate with President Joe Biden, which was set to air on ABC.
According to Trump, the debate will take place in Pennsylvania with a live audience and will be moderated by Fox News hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. The venue is yet to be determined.
“I have agreed with FoxNews to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th. The Debate was previously scheduled against Sleepy Joe Biden on ABC, but has been terminated in that Biden will no longer be a participant,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump’s new terms also specify that the debate should follow the format of his previous debates with Biden, which notably excluded fact-checking and prevented moderators from challenging any inaccuracies during the debate.
Trump said: “The FoxNews Debate will be held in the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at a site in an area to be determined. The Moderators of the Debate will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, and the Rules will be similar to the Rules of my Debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his Party – BUT WITH A FULL ARENA AUDIENCE!….”
It remains unclear whether Harris will accept the invitation under these conditions or if Fox News will agree to Trump’s terms.
