Donald Trump has ignited a social media firestorm by employing artificial intelligence to promote a fabricated “Swifties For Trump” campaign, falsely insinuating that pop sensation Taylor Swift, a well-known Democrat, is supporting his presidential bid.
On Sunday, Trump took to his Truth Social platform, posting a series of AI-generated images and videos purporting to show Taylor Swift’s fans wearing “Swifties For Trump” T-shirts.
The images, accompanied by Trump’s triumphant caption, “I accept!”, included AI-generated posters depicting Swift in an Uncle Sam outfit urging voters to support Trump. The content also featured a mix of realistic and digitally altered photos, including one of a woman in a “Swifties For Trump” shirt.
Adding to the confusion, Trump shared a video featuring a woman claiming surprise at the notion of Swifties rallying for Trump. The video unfoundedly linked Swift’s recent tour disruptions to Trump, suggesting that her tour cancellations were somehow related to a broader political narrative.
Trump’s move comes as he desperately seeks to regain the spotlight with Vice President Kamala Harris’s Democratic National Convention set to commence in Chicago today.
The controversy coincides with speculation that Taylor Swift or Beyoncé might make appearances at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, which runs from August 19 to August 22. However, neither Swift’s nor Beyoncé’s representatives have confirmed any involvement.
Taylor Swift is currently performing in London as part of her Eras Tour, with shows scheduled at Wembley Stadium on Monday and Tuesday. The online uproar highlights the growing tension and misinformation surrounding the upcoming election season.
