Late on Sunday evening, Donald Trump cast fresh doubt on his commitment to debate Vice President Kamala Harris. the former president took to Truth Social to voice his skepticism about participating in a scheduled debate against Harris, complaining about the fairness of the event.
His post reveals a notable shift in his stance, as he initially seemed to accept the debate arrangement that had been negotiated between himself and the harris campaign. However, his latest recent rant suggest he is now reconsidering his participation.
Trump’s post targeted ABC News—a network he has long criticized. He began by denouncing the network as “FAKE NEWS,” taking particular aim at reporter Jonathan Karl and the network’s panel of commentators. Trump questioned why he should participate in a debate moderated by what he described as a network biased against him. His criticism extended to Donna Brazile, a former CNN contributor and Democratic strategist, alleging that she might manipulate the debate process in favor of Harris, a claim reminiscent of past accusations made against her regarding debate moderation for Hillary Clinton.
“I watched ABC FAKE NEWS this morning, both lightweight reporter Jonathan Carl’s(K?) ridiculous and biased interview of Tom Cotton (who was fantastic!), and their so-called Panel of Trump Haters,” Trump wrote, adding, “and I ask, why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?
“Will panelist Donna Brazil give the questions to the Marxist Candidate like she did for Crooked Hillary Clinton? Will Kamala’s best friend, who heads up ABC, do likewise. Where is Liddle’ George Slopadopolus hanging out now? Will he be involved. They’ve got a lot of questions to answer!!! Why did Harris turn down Fox, NBC, CBS, and even CNN? Stay tuned!!!” he concluded.
Trump’s comments reflect a broader strategy of questioning the legitimacy of media outlets and political processes. By challenging the debate’s credibility, he appears to be setting the stage for a possible withdrawal or a renegotiation of the terms under which he might participate.
