Donald Trump fact-checked live on air by ABC over his ‘baby executions’ comment

Donald Trump echoed his stance on abortion issues during the debate, accusing the Democratic states of being radical and supporting abortion after birth – only for ABC moderator Linsey Davis to give him a reality check.

“Her vice presidential pick says abortion in the ninth month is absolutely fine,” Trump falsely claimed, referring to Harris’ running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

“He also said execution after birth. It’s execution no longer abortion because the baby is born. That is not okay with me.”

But ABC moderator Linsey Davis responded after Trump finished his answer, saying that “there’s no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born.”

Infanticide is criminalized in every state, and no state has ever passed a law that allows the kiling a person after birth.

Trump also echoed his stance that he would not sign a national abortion ban, saying “there’s no reason to sign a ban because we’ve gotten what everybody wanted,” referring to the Supreme Court’s unprecedented ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade more than two years ago.

This was not the first time Linsey and Muir moderated a political stage, as they were among the moderators in the Democratic primary debate in Houston in September 2019.

Rick Klein, ABC News’s political director, told The New York Times that Linsey and Muir are there to “facilitate a discussion” and that “the debate belongs to the candidates.”
