Lara Trump Says Donald Isn’t Racist, Then Snaps When Charlamagne Tha God Bursts Into Laughter: ‘Why Is That Funny?’
Lara Trump, RNC co-chair and wife of Eric Trump, snapped at radio host Charlamagne Tha God during an appearance on The Breakfast Club when he laughed at her assertion that she had “never seen” her father-in-law, Donald Trump, “say a racist thing.”
During the Monday interview, co-host DJ Envy questioned Lara about widespread perceptions of Trump’s racism, particularly referencing his controversial comments about the Central Park Five—five Black men wrongfully convicted of a crime in 1989. Trump, who ran full-page ads calling for the death penalty at the time, has never apologized for his statements.
Throughout the 55-minute discussion, Lara staunchly defended her father-in-law. “You have to look at what someone has actually done,” she argued, claiming that Trump had a positive impact on the Black community during his presidency.
“I will say I’ve never seen this man say a racist thing, I think the attacks are fairly…” she added before being cut off by Charlamagne, who was heard chuckling off-camera
“Why is that funny, Charlamagne?” she shot back.
His response was, “It’s hysterical,” pointing out the abundance of documented comments that contradict her claim. Lara challenged him to cite specific examples of Trump’s alleged racism, but the show then played clips showcasing inflammatory statements made by Trump over the years, including his notorious 2015 remarks about Mexican immigrants.
Despite the evidence, Lara insisted, “This is a man who was beloved by so many people in this country, and he was friends with everybody.”
In a related segment, Charlamagne had recently interviewed Vice President Kamala Harris, who echoed concerns about Trump’s political stance, describing it as “fascism.” Harris also discussed her commitment to addressing issues affecting the Black community, highlighting her efforts to improve Black maternal health and reduce unemployment.
