‘Pretty Sad’: Trump Grumbles That ‘Our Nation Going To Hell’ After Obama Torches Him at Convention

Former President Trump took a whiny tone when commenting about the Democratic National Convention, claiming it was “pretty sad” that the event focused so much on him. In a recent interview on “The Hugh Hewitt Show,” Trump grumbled about the Democrats’ emphasis on him during their Chicago convention, labeling their behavior as “out of control.”

Trump’s complaints came after several Democratic speakers, including former President Obama, criticized him during their speeches.

When Hewitt asked if the negative rhetoric could have influenced the assassination attempt against him in July, Trump said, “Well, it could. You know, I was mentioned at the Democrats’ little party that they have going on in Chicago, and it’s pretty sad.”

Trump then complained that Democrats should have been more concerned with issues like crime and the economy, rather than mentioning him nearly 200 times. He lamented that discussions on the economy were sparse and that topics like the border and crime barely received attention.

“And they mentioned the economy about five times. They mentioned the border maybe none. They mentioned crime almost none. So I mean, they’re out of control. These people are out of control. And they’re ruining our nation. Our nation is going to hell,” Trump said.

While the economy and the border were indeed discussed at the convention, Democrats primarily used the platform to praise the Biden administration and criticize Trump.

Obama’s speech included direct criticism of Trump’s tendency to focus on crowd sizes and his “whining about his problems,” while Michelle Obama, though not naming Trump directly, referred to his escalator entrance into politics as a symbol of relying on “an escalator waiting to take us to the top.”

“Most of us will never be afforded the grace of failing forward,” adding we can’t rely on “an escalator waiting to take us to the top.”
