When you think of MAGA, probably the picture that comes up in your head includes a red cap and a flag on a truck.
Sure, maybe you’ve had experience with those guys that have specific stickers on their vehicles with an #FJB or a “Let’s Go Brandon,” to let you know that they mean business. And those people seem like the extreme right wing of the Republican Party.
Unfortunately, they’re not even close to some of the crazies out there. And for years, those crazies — the ones who let Nazis march in their gatherings and stood by while Heather Heyer was murdered with a car in Charlottesville — have been Trump’s most stalwart base.
We’re talking about the Proud Boys and Laura Loomer, Richard Spencer and the Daily Stormer. The white nationalist groups and personalities who tune in to Tucker Carlson for their “mainstream” news and have found a leader for their single-minded white nationalism in Donald Trump.
Now those groups are turning on him.
It turns out that as bad as you think Trump has been so far in this campaign, they don’t think he’s been nearly bad enough. I guess for Nick Fuentes the white nationalist who was on Adin “Butt Sniffer” Ross’s show before Trump was, the Trump camp just isn’t stepping up the cruelty like they need to.
Fuentes is famous for coining the word “Groyper,” an umbrella term for white supremacists and antisemites, trolls and provocateurs, all from the alt-right. And Fuentes is threatening to turn his “Groyper Army” against Trump.
“Dare I say it? I am declaring a new Groyper war against the Trump campaign,” Fuentes said in a Thursday night video on X. “You have alienated us. You have ignored us. You don’t listen to our concerns. We have been left behind. Groypers will bring the energy, memes, edits, replies, trolls. Get with us or get the f*ck out of the way.”
Fuentes went on to express his concern that Trump had been “hijacked by the same consultants, lobbyists, & donors that he defeated in 2016, “and said “without serious changes, we are headed for a catastrophic loss.”
Note that he still says “we.” He knows that Trump still has the plain old racists of America in his pocket. But Fuentes’ ultimate goal is the white takeover of the country.
Loomer, who has been friendly to the Trump campaign so far this year, is beginning to change her tune. This is the woman famous for declaring Islam a “cancer on humanity” and denying that a number of mass shootings even happened. Most recently she accused Mark Kelly of tweeting on behalf of his “brain dead” wife, Gabby Giffords (who is very much not brain dead).
Loomer now believes that Trump isn’t firing all of his guns:
“Have you noticed how weak so many of the Trump surrogates sound on TV? We can’t talk about a stolen election for another 4 years. Time for some offense. And if you don’t know how to be on offense you probably should stay far away from President Trump’s campaign.”
It won’t be long until Trump notices he’s losing this group. And he’ll try to win them back. God help us when he does.
