Trump Mocked for Confusing ‘Alaska’ and ‘Afghanistan’ While Posing as a Military Expert

MSNBC’s Morning Joe crew mocked former President Donald Trump after he disastrously mixed up Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge with Afghanistan’s Bagram Air Base during a town hall in Michigan. Attempting to flex his military expertise, Trump only showcased his staggering confusion.

for mistakenly conflating an Alaskan wildlife refuge with a military base in Afghanistan while trying to show off his military expertise during a town hall in Michigan on Tuesday.

While discussing his energy policies, Trump blurted out: “We have Bagram in Alaska. They say it might be as big, might be bigger than all of Saudi Arabia. I got it approved. Ronald Reagan couldn’t do it. Nobody could do it. I got it done.” This was not just a slip; it was a monumental blunder that underscored a serious disconnect from reality.

Even as he stumbled through an attempted clarification, the damage was done. “Check that one out, Bagram. It’s—no, think about this: Between Bagram, between—you go to ANWR, you take a look at the kind of things that we’ve given up,” he continued, revealing an alarming inability to distinguish between critical military installations and environmental policies.

The Morning Joe team didn’t hold back during their analysis, with host Joe Scarborough mocking Trump’s gaffe right from the start.

“Check it out, Willie. You got your Google machine? Bagram, Alaska. I hear there’s some of the best moose hunting in all of the world in Bagram,” he quipped, showcasing images of both locations side by side. “Bagram left. That would be… Bagram, Alaska, Bagram, Afghanistan to the right. No. I think he may have confused Alaska and Afghanistan.”

Willie Geist emphasized the ridiculousness of Trump’s repeated misstatements, noting, “Not a slip of the tongue either. He said it five or six times. Closed with: ‘Check it. Google it. Find it. Look it up. Take it to the bank.’ One thing he is right about: Ronald Reagan did nothing about Bagram—so that part of it is true.”

Scarborough sarcastically added, “Thank God. Thank God he is so much better than every other president ever, he says, except for the other 45.” Co-host Mika Brzezinski chimed in, pointing out the absurdity of Trump’s repeated confusion at a campaign event.

This wasn’t just a simple mistake; it’s a troubling sign of a leader who can’t keep the basics straight when discussing critical issues.
