Trump Rages Against FBI In Angry Tirade, Insists Rally Injury Was Caused by Bullet, Not Glass or Shrapnel
Former President Donald Trump launched an angry tirade late Thursday, staunchly asserting that he was struck by a bullet during a recent campaign rally, contrary to suggestions by FBI Director Christopher Wray. Wray had implied that it was still unclear whether Trump was injured by a bullet or shrapnel.
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump vehemently denounced Wray’s remarks on the assassination attempt against him. He also criticized Wray’s comments on President Biden’s cognitive state and the FBI’s handling of the January 6th Capitol riot prosecutions.
“No, it was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear, and hit it hard. There was no glass, there was no shrapnel,” Trump stated. “The hospital called it a ‘bullet wound to the ear,’ and that is what it was. No wonder the once storied FBI has lost the confidence of America!”
Wray had testified before Congress on Wednesday regarding the investigation into the shooting incident at a rally in Butler, Pa. He remarked, “I think with respect to former President Trump, there’s some question about whether or not it’s a bullet or shrapnel that, you know, hit his ear.”
In response, the FBI released a statement asserting that it had always been “consistent and clear” about the nature of the attack. The bureau reaffirmed its commitment to investigating the incident, which resulted in Trump’s injury and the death of a rally attendee.
“This was a heinous attack,” the FBI said. “The FBI is devoting enormous resources to learn everything possible about the shooter and what led to his act of violence,” the bureau said. “The FBI’s Shooting Reconstruction Team continues to examine evidence from the scene, including bullet fragments, and the investigation remains ongoing.”
Video footage of the shooting depicts Trump reacting to the sound of gunfire, reaching for his ear before ducking to the ground. Secret Service agents quickly surrounded him, and by the time he stood up, his ear was bleeding, and his face was streaked with blood.
Trump has been seen with a bandage on his right ear in all his public appearances since the incident. Information about his treatment and recovery has been scarce, with updates primarily coming from family members.
Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), former White House physician for the Trump administrations, examined Trump’s ear and updated the public on his condition. In a letter on Sunday, Jackson described the bullet wound as narrowly missing Trump’s head and causing a significant injury to the top of his ear.
“The bullet passed, coming less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head, and struck the top of his right ear,” Jackson wrote. “The bullet track produced a 2 cm wide wound that extended down to the cartilaginous surface of the ear. There was initially significant bleeding, followed by marked swelling of the entire upper ear. The swelling has since resolved, and the wound is beginning to granulate and heal properly.”
